Purpose, sources and roles

Demand Locator’s purpose is to identify an expressed rental need and evaluate whether a property or monitored area fits that need. Sources may include configured Facebook groups and Reddit communities accessed through permitted provider routes. We do not treat public visibility as unlimited permission to reuse personal data.

Synaptica is responsible for its own research and platform operations. For commissioned processing, the customer’s and Synaptica’s respective controller/processor roles must be recorded in the contract. A customer deciding whether and how to reply remains responsible for that contact. Request the source-specific controller information from the privacy contact.

Source categories can include post text, platform and community, time, stated location, budget, timing and property requirements, plus the source identifier needed to find or suppress a record. Names, handles and source links are personal data when they identify a person. They must not appear in public research reports.

Before monitoring is activated

Each monitoring scope requires a source/access inventory, platform-terms review, role allocation and an assessment of the lawful basis. Where legitimate interests are proposed, a documented balancing assessment must cover the requester’s expectations and rights. DPIA screening and any required full DPIA must precede high-risk processing.

This webpage is not a substitute for an individual information duty under Article 14. The responsible controller must assess the required timing and delivery method and document any specific exemption; a general claim that notification is difficult is not enough. These assessments are not represented as completed merely because this page exists.

Data limits and safeguards

Monitoring must exclude known minors, special-category personal data and sensitive inferences, including health, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or family circumstances. Unknown or ambiguous cases require exclusion or human review rather than a guessed profile. The system is not intended to rank people for housing eligibility or make tenancy decisions.

Public reports use aggregated observations and human review, with identifying details removed. A matching alert is operational information for the authorised customer, not a public report. Its source link may still identify a person and requires a documented purpose, access control and retention. Automation does not send messages to the requester.

Access, objection and removal

Contact michele.g@synapticacnsltg.com with the platform and enough information to locate the relevant post. You can request information, access, correction, deletion or restriction and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Do not include unnecessary identity documents or sensitive material. We verify the request proportionately and route it to the relevant controller when needed.

Removing a record from Demand Locator does not delete the original platform post or a copy held independently by another controller. Suppression must prevent recollection where applicable, and deletion must be reconciled across active records, exports and restored backups. Source-specific retention and recipients must be confirmed for the agreed scope; the website-enquiry retention period does not automatically apply to all product data.
